UPS

When the going gets tough, the tough go…SHOPPING.

So what can possibly happen when one has too much time on one’s hands, a computer on the lap and a newly minted credit card within reach. A lot, to judge from the army of delivery trucks pulling into the driveway in recent days.

Apparently, opening delivery boxes on YouTube is ‘a thing’. I wish I had taken a video (not that I know how) of a recent arrival in this household. A box of a dozen or so socks ordered from the Canadian department store Formerly Known as The Bay. Shame and blame. Removing the contents was ridiculous. In addition to the normal sock wrapping and little Plastic display hanger, every single pair of socks was also packaged in its very own ziploc Plastic bag. Totally redundant, totally unnecessary, totally obscene. Plastic Plastic Plastic. Don’t get me started. I wonder where all that plastic ends up?

I digress.

I like using my MacBook Pro laptop but I’ve been thinking for some time about getting a large external monitor for photo editing, photobook production and art reference. Lots of time to research and figure out what is the best one to get while “on the couch”. Then of course lots of time to design a new image file storage system which means shopping for a new super large super fast external hard drive. Then you need a backup strategy which means buying another external hard drive. Then you need a new software backup solution to keep it all sorted (Carbon Copy Cloner). Many hours of shopping pleasure, to say nothing of many many many more hours of figuring out how to use the stuff.

Love my new toy!

The new BenQ  27″ monitor is awesome, it’s fun to work with, the software is becoming interesting rather than just daunting and I’m inspired to get out and play with that camera again. “Get out” are the operative words. I’m incredibly restless these days (no surprise there) and have been planning some mini getaways around coastal BC this spring and summer. First up in May, a hit of the big city – several days in Victoria – for some eating, drinking, walking (hopefully), sightseeing, friend visiting, and, dare I say, more power shopping. (Bring my own bag).
